The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation was established in 1987 by Dr. Claude Moore, a successful physician and Northern Virginia landowner who left most of his fortune in trust for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities for young people throughout the Commonwealth and beyond. Dr. Moore left his estate to the Foundation to increase its capacity for philanthropy. The bulk of his estate consisted of real estate, most of which was in Loudoun County, Virginia. To further the Foundation's ability to carry out Dr. Moore's philanthropic goals, the foundation has systematically sold a large portion of his vast real estate holdings and is currently focused on a disposition strategy for the Moorefield Station project. Moorefield Station is a 600 acre planned development in Loudoun County. It is located at the Loudoun County Parkway and the Dulles Greenway, at the terminus of the future Dulles Metrorail line to Washington D.C. The proceeds from these real estate activities will provide millions of dollars to causes and programs impacting better education.
