In 2010, in response to an unprecedented long term economic downturn, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation (CMCF) was forced to reduce our annual giving funds to less than $3 million.
Although the financial markets have improved and CMCF’s portfolio performed very well in 2010, our assets have not returned to their pre-recession value, and our grantmaking will be constrained again this year.
In this new reality, the Foundation is proud of what we accomplished thus far in 2011 to assist the nonprofit community and the people we serve; for example the Foundation:
Approved $2.3 million in grants to more than 25 nonprofits.
Continued to develop our signature program the Claude Moore Healthcare Academy, including committing to long-term financial support.
Communicated early about the impact of the economy on our grantmaking.
Was responsive to the immediate needs of grantees, adjusting our policies and streamlining our processes.
